More than 2,000 girls from around the state will compete in the 19th Mid Florida Football and Cheerleading Cheer Off in Lakeland.

More than 2,000 girls, ranging from 4-years-old to teenagers, will take to the field at Bryant Stadium in Lakeland on Oct. 22 to take part in the 19th Mid Florida Football and Cheerleading Cheer Off, for while the youth football season has ended, for the girls, there is one match left.

“They know this is their time to shine,” said Mid Florida Football and Cheerleading Conference vice president of cheerleading Tracy Faison.

The event is the culmination of a year’s worth of hard work for teams that hail from a league that stretches from Florida’s east coast to its west coast, as well as north and south, including such far flung destinations as Largo, Deland and Okeechobee as well as nearby Winter Haven, Zephyrhills and Orlando.

The event starts Saturday morning at 8 a.m., with the youngest competitors starting the day on the field. They expect the competition to wrap-up sometime around 9 p.m.

Bryant Stadium is located at 1125 N. Florida Ave. in Lakeland.
